Chairman's Message
Greetings! I take this opportunity to extend you a warm welcome from the new MC of CSI Mumbai. It is with great pleasure that I send to all of you - members, associates and well-wishers of the Chapter, my best wishes and seek your help and guidance for a successful tenure of CSI, Mumbai Team - 2010-2012.
I am happy to address you as the Chairman of the Mumbai chapter, through this column in the First issue of Newstrack for the current year. In the past, CSI has achieved many milestones to its credit. I have, therefore, an arduous task ahead in meeting the standards laid down by my learned predecessors. We are fortunate to have Prof. Thirumurthy as our President and the dynamic Mr. M. D. Agrawal, as our Vice President cum President Elect, a source of inspiration and support to the Chapter. I am also fortunate to have the support of the entire Mumbai Chapter team, Past Chairmen and our Regional Vice President.
We live in a World of rapid change and undoubtedly technology is driving this change. Electronic media and the computing World have changed the lives of people across the globe. Today the World, which is referred to as the global electronic village, never sleeps. It is possible to transact any kind of business between one corner of the World to another in decreasing reaction time on a 24 x 7 basis. The milieu, is therefore, totally different from that of the past. It is very likely that the chip technology which has revolutionised our lives in all spheres, in every nook and corner of the World, is likely to dramatically affect the lives of humanity in the future - nay near future.
In such an environment, as Chairman of CSI- Mumbai, I need to present to you an agenda which is befitting the credentials of the human genius of the I.T. World. India being a leading exporter of I.T. skills to the rest of the World has a special role to play in this emerging scenario. The challenges before the I.T. fraternity are to capture time by the forelock and ride at the crest of the wave of the speed of change.
The CSI, is therefore, an important forum to provide necessary links between the I.T. World interface other constituents of our society. India is also riding at the crest of the wave of a knowledge society which has been propelled to a great extent by the revolution possible in the I.T. and electronic media World. The agenda for me is to spell out our expectations from the I.T. fraternity for discharging our respective roles in a manner that befits our potential. Every individual has to unleash his/her hidden potential and bring it to the fore to meet the revolution of rising expectations of society. The specific agenda for CSI includes, inter-alia, the following :-
(1) To provide a platform for consultation and collaboration on issues of common interest between the I.T. fraternity and the rest of the World.
(2) To identify management education and training programmes which can help to hone the expertise of the I.T. fraternity with a view to enable, empower and enact their respective roles more effectively.
(3) To provide opportunities for higher education to I.T. fraternity and others by forging a symbiotic relationship between CSI and related I.T. institutions interface other partners in the waiting across different constituents of the World economy across continents.
(4) To identify human resources requirements of the World at large with respect to I.T. skills and also identify ways and means of providing the required numbers of people to the demanding segments.
(5) To establish a suitable platform for making quality services a way of life and make India the reservoir of I.T. talent for the rest of the World, today and hopefully, for a long time to come in the near and distant future.
(6) To promote CSI as a unique, special and exclusive I.T. foundation which will meet the challenges of I.T. World in the field of education, industry, trade, commerce, business, agriculture, services sector and such other segments of the population that may require I.T. as an input in their day to day life.
(7) To shorten the duration and lesson the gap between the demand for and supply of I.T. and I.T. related inputs to the rest of the World.
(8) To provide a think tank related to I.T. interface various constituents of our society which can act as an R & D crucible and set into motion the human genius at work through creativity and innovation.
(9) To bring the I.T. fraternity upto speed with respect to skills attitude and motivation which transcend beyond I.T. per se and project our I.T. fraternity as holistic resource persons and proud ambassadors of a leading of knowledge society - INDIA.
(10) To do anything that is incidental, consequential and supplemental to the above.
With the specific agenda for this decade 2010-2020, I look upon the younger generation as messengers of change. As it is acknowledged “CHANGE IS THE ONLY WAY TO GROW”. As a first step to achieve this agenda I wish to embark on the following initiatives:
1. Member Connect – better member connect by improved website, newstrack, periodic mailers and member connect programs including industry visits, knowledge seminars, members meets and continuing and strengthening the CIO club initiative of the Chapter.
2. Student/Youth connect – strengthen the interaction between CSI Mumbai chapter and the student community through programs and initiatives.
3. People Connect – connecting with people on issues of public importance in the field of IT, like the cyber safety initiative, making CSI more visible.
4. Guru Connect – Bringing seniors, fellows patrons and mentors our ‘gurus’ of the chapter together - think tank to give direction to chapter activities.
As you will appreciate this is not something which can be done by the Mumbai Chapter or even the whole of CSI alone, but only with participation and active involvement of all members and the public.
I will be writing to you separately from time to time to know your mind, get inputs and seek your help, guidance and participation in CSI activities.
Do write to me at chairman@csimumbai.org
With best regards,
Dr. Vishnu Kanhere
